Time awareness is a method for creating the awareness to make the most of time spent. I find it highly effective for identifying and adjusting avoidance behavior. Can be used to efficiently understand exactly where time is going and how to change behavior. [Template sheet here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eFnLM9kPWf4SPrM4wdCSuNjwOOrAS18jIbQhf7kSjJo/edit?usp=sharing) The process: 1. When: 1. Choosing a new action to switch to 2. Realizing I haven't tracked what I'm currently doing 3. Open the time awareness sheet on my phone. 1. Copy the template to create a new day if no page for today. 4. For each activity since last recording 1. Record the time started (assumes the end time of one action is the same as the start time of the next one) 2. Label the action 3. Answer questions, for example 1. Is this action avoidance (threshold is avoidance{moving away} motivation outweighs approach{moving towards} motivation)? 2. Is this action productive/life enhancing? Setup recommendations: - Set an alarm for when morning routine is set to be done labeled "Decide to start time awareness for today". - Add the Google sheet as a shortcut where you will see it first then when opening your phone. - using 24 hr time makes recording times faster. Instead of 2:45 PM, 245 - At the end of the day add a stop time on the row below the last action. Find and replace, enable "Search with regular expressions" to add semi colon to all times at once - Find: \d{2}$ - Replace: :amp; - Drag down the minutes spent formula all the way to the last activity row to calculate time spent.
